so in theory I really like spotify wrapped. like I think that the idea of everyone being able to look back on their year of listening is a dope idea and even though sharing it is a trope I still am into it (though of course I'm too afraid to share mine and don't think anyone will care really so I don't share mine). but I like sending screenshots of mine to my friends and I even have a couple people with whom I share a short-lived (2 years and counting!) tradition of selecting 5 to taste from my top 100 and doing a little exchange.
I like it in theory. but what happens when you listen to Dark Line by Satoshi Bando 50 trillion quillion times on repeat on youtube or the other version of Dark Line by Satoshi Bando (also on youtube) where someone from (let me check) 3 years ago mislooped the song for an extended version that is a total of 23:43 long and also has that vicious bass/low mid boost? [I also must share, the latter of those versions says 23:43 in the title, 23:43 in the video player, but 23:44 in the video suggestion thumbnail. absolutely mind boggling stuff that I myself have dealt with when uploading my music to youtube as well. shoutouts to the people who've listened to my music on youtube I bet I know 1 of you].
what happens when I listen to mp3s of my own music or ableton project files on my computer over and over again? of course I can manually loop sections in my software, a potent tool for those stretches of the workday where I completely fail to to work and instead sit there clicking on different rows of my arrangement view like I'm some kind of dj.
what happens when I go completely hog wild for PinkPantheress' Heaven Knows in like october (I guess it actually came out in november ugh) and spin it through the winter and also through the spring and also now but stupidupid spotify doesn't understand that sometimes january to december isn't the most accurate way to segment parts of my life so at the end of the year I end up with someone else in that number 1 or 2 or whatever spot. just look at this 12 month recap!!! what if the year ended a few days ago huh??? spotify???!!! 6/28/24
you know what always gets robbed? Pookkal Pookkum...
I swear some things just sound better coming off of youtube. it's the way that each upload sounds just a tad different (or seems to) and the comments so reliably repeat each other. each niche is its own miniature world! today it's champloo soundtrack! I've been frequenting this one since I was ~14. it's always rip Nujabes this and rip Nujabes that, and best anime series this and how about I just let them speak for themselves:
@Warriorsjourney89
So man memories. Defense my teenage nostalgia years.
@R-Righteous
I get the love for nujabes but where's the praise for Fat John and Tsutchie, they both worked on the soundtrack for this show too you know.
...to which I responded
@skotunes
don't forget Force of Nature, some of the best to ever do it
youtube commenter me always more polarized

I like Toast. Somtimes'' its good with butta and cinnamon. The world seems beyond fucked. I wish it was ran by better men. If I was famous I would of been on Letterman. Rolling down the streets like I'm roundhoused by the can. Floating in the ionosphere, not sure we're I'm gonna land. Wishing I had the power of just one Fix-It Filix hand. Because everything seems to be broken up to a little bitty fuck. It doesn't matter if I had a wabbits foot with a 5-leaf clover between it's toes levitating through a rainbow I'm all out of luck. Being at the receiving end of the birdshot and YOU are the duck. . .
I am not a duck...I'm a cruck
scenario: man messages you a spotify link to Kacey Musgraves' song breadwinner with caption: "me"
like I think he just heard one line from the chorus and thought you might be a fan but I mean c'mon
I think I might start a substack...
